The card game every Filipino grew up playing is now on amjilli — faster, fairer, and with real cash prizes every round. Whether you learned Tongits at the family table or on your neighbour's porch, you already know how to win here.
Tongits is one of the most well-loved card games in the Philippines. It's a three-player rummy-style game using a standard 52-card deck, and if you've spent any time at a Filipino gathering — whether it's a birthday, a fiesta, or a lazy Sunday afternoon — chances are you've seen it being played.
The goal of Tongits is simple: get rid of your cards before the other players do by forming valid sets and runs, or end up with the lowest unmatched card value when the game is called. It's fast, competitive, and requires a good mix of strategy and reading your opponents.
At amjilli, we've brought the full Tongits experience online so you can play anytime — against real players from across the Philippines. No waiting for your friends to be free, no physical deck needed. Just log in, find a table, and go.

New to the online version? Here's a quick rundown of how a round goes at amjilli.
Each of the three players is dealt 12 cards at the start. The remaining cards form the draw pile at the centre. The dealer gets an extra card to begin the turn.
On your turn, draw a card from the deck or pick up the top discard. Form melds — sets of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank, or runs of 3 or more cards in the same suit.
After drawing and melding, you must discard one card face-up on the discard pile. Managing which cards you throw can be just as important as the ones you keep.
Win by declaring Tongits (empty hand), calling a Fight when you believe you have the lowest unmatched value, or surviving until the draw pile runs out with the fewest deadwood points.
These are the melds you can lay down during your turn. Know them by heart and you're already halfway to winning.
| Meld Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Three of a Kind | Three cards of the same rank, any suit | 7♠ 7♥ 7♦ |
| Four of a Kind | All four cards of the same rank | K♠ K♥ K♦ K♣ |
| Sequence / Run (3+) | Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit | 4♣ 5♣ 6♣ 7♣ |
| Extended Run | A sequence you extend on later turns by adding cards | 4♣ 5♣ 6♣ → +7♣ |
Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) each carry 10 points as deadwood. Aces carry 1 point. Number cards carry face value. Lower total deadwood = better position when a Fight is called.

Good Tongits players don't just rely on luck — they read the table, manage their hand, and know when to strike. Here are practical tips used by regular amjilli players:
Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth 10 deadwood points each. If they're not forming a meld quickly, discard them before your opponent calls a Fight and catches you holding them.
Their discards tell you what they don't need — which gives you a clue about their hand composition. If they keep throwing the same suit, they probably don't have a run forming there.
Calling a Fight exposes your deadwood count. Make sure you're genuinely low before calling — if another player beats you by even 1 point, you lose the pot.
Adding cards to an opponent's exposed meld (Sapaw) lets you get rid of cards you can't meld yourself. It's a clever way to reduce your deadwood without needing to form a new set.
If you're in a strong position, play steadily toward Tongits. If you're behind, slow things down by drawing carefully and avoiding discards that benefit opponents who might be close to winning.
